– In-school and after-school program development
§
Teachers give bridge high
marks as an after-school program. 5
Albuquerque, NM teachers (some non-bridge players) completed a self-administered survey in which
they assessed both the bridge program they were running as well as the best
after-school program available in their school (middle and high schools in
sample). These teachers rated
bridge more favorably in terms of stimulating
creativity and critical thinking in students; improving
concentration and attention to detail; reinforcing
basic educational skills; being a good
value for the money; and being easy
to administer (BridgeAtSchools, Inc., February 2002).
§
From the first days of
learning, students must be sensitized and motivated to the fact that they
are going to have to play a true
competitive game adapted their specificity (paraphrased from school bridge
training manual created by French Bridge Federation, translated by BridgeAtSchools, Inc., February 2002).
§
A friend’s
recommendation, being with friends, and making new friends are chief reasons
students join a school bridge program (paraphrased from school bridge training
manual created by French Bridge Federation, translated by BridgeAtSchools, Inc.,
February 2002, and Albuquerque survey, BridgeAtSchools, Inc., February 2002).
