Academic Improvement
Research
– Academic improvements measured in students who learn bridge
Bridge improves short-term
memory retention in primary school children (England).
10 primary school children aged 10-11 in a deprived urban area
completed a shortened 6-week course in Minibridge near the end of a school
term. Significant
improvements in short-term memory retention were found in 4 of the 10
children. The educational
psychologist conducting the study concluded that more gains would probably
have been achieved in a standard Minibridge course, and a more comprehensive
study is being planned for next year which will also measure math, non-verbal
reasoning, and social skills (“Report of Minibridge Pilot Research Project,
St. Paul’s C. of E. Primary School, Manchester,” Leah Burman, 03/23/02).
